Founded by Hankook Kim in 2011, Gentle Monster quickly rose to global prominence for its forward-thinking eyewear, marked by oversized silhouettes, boundary-pushing shapes, and a focused attention to design tailored specifically for Asian facial structures.

Beyond its products, the brand established its identity through immersive, otherworldly retail spaces that blur the line between fashion, art, and technology.

For Spring Summer 2022, Gentle Monster joined forces with Moncler under the Italian outerwear label’s experimental platform, Moncler Genius, to launch a capsule titled “SWIPE.” The collaboration explored the dissonance between virtual and physical realities. The name “SWIPE” draws from the intuitive gesture we make on screens.

“SWIPE” serves as a metaphor for emotional exchange, instant gratification, and validation in the digital age. This concept extends beyond screen gestures and into the design language itself, reflecting how we now interact with the world around us.

The collection was unveiled at HAUS DOSAN, Gentle Monster’s flagship store in Seoul, where an immersive installation brought the swipe motif to life through kinetic structures, sound design, and multimedia projections. The popup allowed consumers to experience both the disorientation and the appeal of constant digital stimulation.

This standout pair of sunglasses features a bold acetate cat-eye frame supported by collapsible, foldable titanium arms, stretched to reveal a distorted Moncler logo.
