Yohji Yamamoto Pour Homme Spring Summer 2002 explored a youthful spirit through oversized silhouettes, denim and twill, with frayed shirt hems replacing conventional finishes. Titled “The Showa Portraits” in Yohji Yamamoto's official retrospective, the collection gradually introduced portraits of women associated with Japan's Showa-era popular culture, first appearing in small medallions before expanding into monumental images across the fronts and backs of jackets. The juxtaposition of relaxed, almost boyish proportions with expressive portraiture gave the collection its distinctive character, bringing together everyday workwear references and a deeply personal engagement with Japanese cultural memory.
