AW90 Tricot Comme Des Garcons Backcross Midi Sleeveless Dress

Rare 90s Junya Watanabe's Tricot.

“Tricot” translates directly to ‘knit’ in French. This womenswear-centric diffusion line was founded in 1981 by Rei Kawakubo. 7 years later, it was helmed by Junya Watanabe. Originally envisioned as a knitwear-focused line, Tricot quickly evolved to encompass a broader range of garments that’s in line with Comme Des Garcons design language but in a more approachable and wearable form.

During its run, Tricot Comme des Garçons garnered a cult following for its soft, intimate approach to casual womenswear. Known for its layering, asymmetry, deconstruction, and whimsical details like unexpected buttons, embroideries, and ruffles.

Junya eventually handed the reins to his disciple — Tao Kurihara. Tricot ceased operations in 2020, rebranding as “Tao” and marking a revival of her eponymous line, Tao Comme des Garçons, known for more theatrical, concept-driven garments.

Features a cinchable waist drawstring, large side pockets and oversized backcross shoulder straps.
