Before launching The Viridi‑Anne in Spring/Summer 2001, Tomoaki Okaniwa spent years studying oil painting and fine art. That foundation still informs his quiet, introspective approach to clothing.
His work is rooted in traditional Japanese beliefs and heritage, paired with a forward-thinking approach to construction. High-tech fabrics meet time-honored silhouettes, while sharp tailoring is softened by hand-finished irregularity. It’s a careful balance between imperfection and precision.
Signature pieces like distressed tees, layered shorts, and asymmetric knits channel the spirit of wabi-sabi, where imperfection is not just accepted but revered. Leather outerwear, slouchy cardigans, and oversized pullovers come in a muted, contemplative palette that gently blurs the line between past and present.
This high gauge knit beanie features a scar stitch running down the center, separating the two distinct weaves of fabric.
