SS24 Wales Bonner “Marathon” Knitted Vest

Grace Wales Bonner founded her soulful, eponymous label in 2014 after graduating from Central Saint Martins, emerging with a practice rooted in cultural led luxury. Raised in South London by a Jamaican father and English mother, she built the brand around Afro-Atlantic identity, drawing from BIPOC’s diasporic history, literature, music, and art while merging European tailoring with sportswear and craft. She positions fashion as a vehicle for cultural dialogue, and hybridity.

Wales Bonner’s Spring Summer 2024 collection, titled “Marathon,” explored endurance, long journeys, and the spiritual and physical discipline of long-distance running. Using marathon as both a literal and metaphorical framework, the collection referenced East African running culture while expanding it into a meditation on persistence and life purpose.

Across the collection, Wales Bonner presented fashion as a continuum of movement and cultural memory. Models donned athletic and sartorial languages through tailored suits developed with Anderson & Sheppard, technical sportswear, and artisanal elements such as Ethiopian Tibeb textiles and Ghanaian hand-applied beadwork. Ongoing collaboration with adidas Originals brought on more sporty and fluorescent garments, reinforcing the dialogue between sport, and contemporary dress.

Seen in look 19, this Unity vest is crafted from crocheted recycled polyester and detailed with ribbed trims at the neckline, sleeves and hem. Perfect for layering.
