SS23 Craig Green Nylon Shell Harness

Rooted in the beauty and humility of uniform and functional clothing, Craig Green is a London-born designer who launched his namesake label in 2012. A graduate of Central Saint Martins, Green also interned with Walter Van Beirendonck and Henrik Vibskov, both of whom share his flair for experimental form and theatrical presentation.

Green grew up surrounded by industrial materials. Plumbing parts, upholstery tools, and construction bits were a regular part of his environment, thanks to his plumber father and upholsterer godfather. This upbringing shaped his unconventional design process, where garments are approached not simply as products, but as reflections on function, form, and emotion. During his MA at Central Saint Martins, he studied under the late Louise Wilson, who further pushed him to embrace discomfort and challenge.

“You’re protected by the things that you gain as you get older,” Green explained when describing the Spring Summer 2023 collection. The show explored the evolving relationship between masculinity, protection, and uniform. This season, he leaned further into conceptual construction. Objects such as ladders, suitcases, stirrups, and sheathed tools were reimagined and attached to garments, serving as symbols of movement, burden, and transformation.

Green paired formal suits with school crests, blending nostalgia with structure. In his words, “the baggage and decorations of many decades are individually re-examined and modified along their climb, from the soft glow of adolescent reminiscences, to the stark molds of adulthood.” His models walked like figures in transition, caught between vulnerability and strength, decorated with the physical and emotional tools of survival.

This highly technical vest is a distilled example of that vision. It features a nylon shell with front and side zip fastenings, tubular trims, adjustable straps, and D-rings. It balances functionality with ornamental restraint, reinforcing Green’s belief in the power of uniform as both utility and expression.
