Takahiro Miyashita presented his Spring/Summer 2021 collection virtually from Japan during Women's Paris Fashion Week. Titled doe(s), he wanted to create clothes with the intention of separating the wearer from their associated gender and identity. By creating genderless clothes and showcasing them during a womenswear presentation, he laid the groundwork for this new methodology and approach of fashion.

Amidst the global pandemic, Takahiro Miyashita reinvented the face mask, which inherently helped build on his androgynous approach. By stripping away facial features of the model, it shifted the attention of the audience towards the garments instead. The collection was also aptly named. Doe(s) signified the multi-use placeholder names commonly associated with anonymity and used to conceal an individual's identity.

The clothes presented this season were heavily inspired by garment bags, giving Miyashita the liberty to create clothes that aren’t bound by sizes and fit everyone. His garment construction also took a more experimental turn this season. Pieces were stapled and heat-bonded instead of sewn: “Why do we need to sew to make clothes? I had the creative method of furniture and architecture and such in mind.” — said Miyashita in the footnotes of the show.

Lastly, it isn't a Soloist show without parallels drawn from art, music, and films. Inspired by the Spatialism art movement founded by Lucio Fontana, Soloist used rubber tape to imprint music note-like motifs on a blank canvas. Quotes from novelist Ernest Hemingway and the film Se7en were prominently featured on the garments, setting a dark yet hopeful undertone. The collection was also showcased alongside a short film, where the haunting yet optimistic music was scored in collaboration with HYUKOH.

This pair of boots comes with an original hefty price tag of ¥300,000 JPY (~$2,600 SGD), justified by the thick cowhide leather and Goodyear-welted soles, and feature a distinctive bulbous toecap.
