Raf Simons premiered his Spring Summer 2021 collection, Teenage Dreams, via a dark, atmospheric short film rather than a traditional runway show. The film features models crawling through a dystopian forest and is constructed from nostalgic cinema influences.
Teenage Dreams marked Simons’ first official foray into womenswear. Presented as a co‑ed show, it also served as a subtle glimpse into Simons’ own youth, exploring teenage memories, rebellion, and cultural obsession across eras.
“I don’t want to show clothes, I want to show my attitude, my past, present, and future. I use memories and future visions and try to place them in today’s world.”
Models wore oversized blazers, sleeveless tunics, halter vests, wide bell‑bottom trousers, satin skirts, and clingy cellophane bodices while traversing the dystopian forest set. Garments were printed with psychedelic motifs alongside iconic graphics and slogans such as “Children of the Revolution” and “Join Us.”
Amid the broader context of his ongoing partnership with Prada, where he had recently joined Miuccia as co‑creative director. This collection echoed similar codes: graphic prints, uniform‑inspired silhouettes, and minimalist‑modern shapes.
Using retro ’60s cycling footwear as a launchpad, Simons introduced the sleek Solaris‑21 and Cylon‑21 boots as part of their independent (RUNNER) footwear line. The Solaris boots feature a back‑zip closure and a distinct block heel with logo‑embossed details.
