Cindy Sherman, an American artist best known for her photographic self-portraits, has profoundly influenced many. She is not new to the fashion world. In fact, Sherman created a series of postcards for Comme des Garçons in 1994, starred in campaigns for Marc Jacobs, and collaborated with brands such as Balenciaga and Louis Vuitton.

For Undercover’s Spring/Summer 2020 menswear show, Cindy Sherman returned once again to Jun Takahashi’s runway. Sherman’s Untitled Film Stills series (circa 1977–1980), an iconic set of images, came to the forefront of the collection. In this series of photographs, Sherman casts herself as a character performing various female roles, reflecting societal archetypes of women and exploring themes of identity, and the performative nature of femininity.

This collection marked a departure from Undercover’s slogan-heavy, streetwear-driven identity, embracing instead a more restrained and introspective mood. Tailored black silhouettes dominated the runway, casting an atmosphere of eerie stillness. Sherman’s self-portraits, along with Nosferatu motifs, were plastered across various garments.

This beautiful camp-collar shirt features embroidered “Cindy Sherman Undercover” text on the chest pocket and a full print of her 1978 artwork titled Untitled #21 on the back of the shirt.
