SS17 Comme Des Garcons Ganryu Herringbone Jacket
Comme Des Garçons Ganryu was one of the most brilliant sublines under the Comme Des Garçons umbrella, though it sadly shuttered in 2017.
Helmed by Fumito Ganryu, a protégé and pattern-cutter under Rei Kawakubo, Ganryu’s designs share strong similarities with the work of Junya Watanabe. Both designers had a deep appreciation for reimagining and embracing dull menswear silhouettes and giving them new meaning through Japanese deconstruction.
Comme Des Garçons Ganryu’s Spring/Summer 2017 collection was presented at IDOL in Aoyama, a dimly lit, ever-evolving multi-event space overseen by creative director Eiji Hatanaka. The collection predominantly focused on the exploration of denim. With contrast stitches, displaced pockets, and deconstruction seen on japanese denim.
Fumito Ganryu is back in action in 2018, where he launched his eponymous brand’s first collection at Pitto Uomo.
This beautiful japanese heavyweight herringbone denim jacket features contrast stitches and its accented with rich indigo pockets.
