SS13 Undercover "Talking Heads" Deconstructed Jacket
If you search online, there's very little documentation of Undercover's menswear collections from 2010 to 2014, as the reclusive designer took a break from the Paris catwalks after the Tohoku Mega earthquake.
However, this period marked a shift in Undercover’s creative direction. Takahashi moved away from his earlier politically charged, anarchistic tone to one that was more critical and meta-cultural, influenced in part by the rapid expansion of the media industry and increasing censorship.
Undercover Spring/Summer 2013 collection pays tribute to Jun's love for rock, particularly The Talking Heads and The Doors. This affection is shown through the lyrics he’s strewn about the many garments in this collection, which led many to unofficially dub it the "Talking Heads" collection.
SS13 is often described as a continuation of themes from his previous works, such as "Psycho Color" and "Open Strings". Where mismatched buttons, contrasting materials, and lyrical motifs were onsistent feature in his designs during this era.
By incorporating dandyism tailoring with his signature streetwear aesthetic, the all too familiar riffs on men's basic don't seem too basic on closer scrutiny.
This jacket features ventilation holes, a cinchable collar, and colorful mismatched buttons, all accented with middle finger embroidery and a panel with lyrics from the 1967 song "Strange Days" by The Doors.
