Resort 2010 Celine By Phoebe Philo Paneled Green Dress

After a phenomenal stint at Chloe, it-girl Philo was appointed creative director of Celine, accepting the role on the condition that she could remain in London close to her family. She spent her first year rebuilding the brand, opening a design studio in a Georgian townhouse on Cavendish Square while maintaining production ties to Paris. Her atelier, led by haute couture maestro Joaquim Figueiredo, traveled weekly between the two cities, allowing Philo and her team to refine each piece. “There’s something so rich about the combination of London and Paris. One wouldn’t work without the other. I really care about quality, and in the Paris school, entire careers are spent learning their craft. That doesn’t exist in this country on the same level.”

Designing with herself and her peers in mind, Philo focused on creating wardrobe staples for the modern, independent woman. “After my break… it felt better for me to work on an idea of a wardrobe than too much on trends,” she explained. Her debut, Resort 2010, made this philosophy clear. Rather than presenting a themed collection, she introduced a system of dressing built on interchangeable investment pieces designed to stand the test of time.

Geometrical tunics, capes, elegant cocktail dresses, sharp tailoring and chic outerwear were presented in a nude and black dominated palette with the occasional hits of blue, navy and greens and elevated with very subtle yet impactful details. Philo also paid extra attention to materiality, creating wool-silk blends that mimic casual fabrics and treating leather to feel soft and wearable. Alongside the minimalist and empowering garments we also received a strong roster of footwear and bags.

Seen in look 15, this two-tone paneled dress features concealed pockets and slits on both sides of the waist for a belt.
