Pre Fall 2021 MM6 Maison Margiela Pencil Case Square Toe Ballerina Flats

Born in 1997 as Maison Margiela Line 6. A quieter, more pragmatic expression of Margiela’s radical DNA. It took the house’s avant-garde approach and distilled it into something wearable, something that bridged the worlds of femininity and functionality. Line 6 toyed with transformation, bending classic shapes, playing with material weight, and subtly dismantling the familiar. All while remaining effortlessly wearable. 

By June 2004, the signature four stitches securing the white label were replaced with a straight-line stitch, marking the transition from Line 6 to MM6. When Martin Margiela departed in 2009, Maison Martin Margiela was renamed Maison Margiela, and MM6 evolved into a logomania-fueled, trend-driven diffusion line, recycling some of the house’s most iconic and subversive designs while operating at the fringes of commercial fashion.

Pre-Fall collections exist outside the traditional fashion week calendar and serve as a crucial period for generating wholesale sales. For Pre-Fall 2021, MM6 crafted a lineup that reflected the consumer landscape of the time. As the streetwear craze began to wane, MM6 embraced its lingering influence, blending streetwear-inspired silhouettes with house codes. 

The collection featured a palette of nudes and pastels, punctuated by neon and bold prints. Accessories paid homage to Margiela’s ethos of recontextualization: a clutch reminiscent of an accessory box and squared-toe flats evocative of a pencil case.

These runway grained nappa leather ballerina flats in black features a sharp square toe and a silver-tone zipper running from toe box to heel. Reminiscent of a pencil case. A mundane, everyday object transformed into an avant-garde wearable.
