Kapital exists in a space where Japanese tradition meets artisanal techniques, refusing to be pinned down by a single definition. The brand channels a restless spirit that challenges the status quo while honoring the complex ties between Japan and America. This ongoing dialogue between heritage, craftsmanship, and innovation shapes Kapital’s identity.
Kapital Kountry, launched in 2010 under Kiro Hirata’s direction, takes this philosophy further by embracing impermanence and imperfection. The sub-label is known for its inventive patchworking, hand-dyeing, and worn-in finishes.
Many Kountry pieces begin as Kapital garments, transformed through processes like deconstruction, restitching, and distressing. Familiar motifs such as embroidered smiley faces, sashiko stitching, and boro patchwork embody the next generation of Kapital.
This white vest features soft draping at the front, contrasting with the tactile, layered boro patchwork on the back. Pre-distressed cutouts reveals another fabric beneath while adding an unpredictable texture that makes the piece feel alive with history.
