AW23 TAKAHIROMIYASHITA TheSoloist x Suicoke Suede One Strap Fivefinger

TAKAHIROMIYASHITA TheSoloist’s Autumn/Winter 2023 collection, titled The Two of Us, was conceived as a tribute to a “close female friend…a friend and a sister at the same time.” The season carried a tenderness that contrasted with the brand’s usual austerity, framing the show as both intimate and experimental while blurring the line between vulnerability and avant-garde presentation.

The palette remained subdued, relying on blacks, creams, greys, and deep wine tones to emphasize texture and silhouette over spectacle. Miyashita leaned into elongated tailoring, asymmetric constructions, and layered offsets, with vests draped over dresses, leather culottes paired with soft knits, and off-shoulder cuts that disrupted conventional formality.

Textiles ranged from velvet and fur-like finishes to satin and eyelet trims, highlighting his meticulous attention to finish and tactility. Collaborations with graphic designer David Carson added further complexity, embedding chaotic yet poetic visuals into garments as prints and layered motifs. The result was a collection that not only honored its private muse but also pushed the boundaries of how clothes and collaborations can communicate feeling.

Released in tandem with the collection was the One-Strap Suede FiveFingers, part of Miyashita’s ongoing collaboration with Japanese cult-favorite footwear brand Suicoke and Vibram.

Inspired by a classic slip-on design, this One-Strap FiveFingers was constructed from supple taupe suede and secured by a single vamp strap. The design sat atop a Vibram MEGAGRIP sole, balancing utility with statement-making audacity.
