Feng Chen Wang is a Chinese-born, London-based designer whose work spotlights her Chinese roots while embracing European influences. Her technical unisex garments are grounded in traditional Eastern techniques and narratives steeped in ancestral heritage. By fusing time-honored craftsmanship with technical innovation, she produces garments that are both deconstructed and multi-functional. Her design ethos surfaced prominently with her Spring/Summer 2016 debut at New York Fashion Week, which earned her a nomination for the prestigious LVMH Prize and cemented her place as a rising voice in contemporary menswear.
The Autumn/Winter 2020 collection marked a personal and poetic chapter in her career. Drawing from a recent trip to the Wuyi Mountains in northern Fujian province, close to her hometown, the collection became an emotional homage to both landscape and memory. Feng recounted hiking up the mountains in complete darkness, eventually arriving at the summit in time to witness the first light of dawn.
Visually, the collection echoes the palette of dawn as seen from the mountaintop. Some pieces resemble geological strata or the gentle gradation of morning light, embodying the stillness and energy of a new day. Darker, cooler tones like icy grey and deep blue dominate the early silhouettes (dyed with herb and vegetable extracts regularly employed in Chinese medicine), eventually shifting into warmer hues like coral, dusty orange, and fiery red. The transition mirrors the gradual rise of sunlight.
This long-sleeve panelled nylon jacket was seen in Look 19 of the show. It features overlock stitching throughout, accompanied by a stand collar and a double zippered placket.
