AW17 Yohji Yamamoto Pour Homme Camo Cargo Wide Pants
“I admire those people who work seriously using their own body. We’re now at a time in the world where the most important business is money-makes-money. And I hate it.”
Yohji Yamamoto's Autumn/Winter 2017 collection paid tribute to the working class—those who toil tirelessly, shedding blood, sweat, and tears to get by. Even the show invitation resembled a timecard, a nod to the laborers.
Throughout the collection, cryptic yet empowering messages were plastered across garments with Yohji’s signature tailoring. Quotes such as "Save the manufacturing workers!" and "The times are changing too fast" acted as a mode of liberation, advocating for those fighting to stay afloat in a fast-paced, money-driven world.
While Yohji is no stranger to politically and socially charged collections, AW17 felt especially relevant and heartfelt for people around the globe.
In addition to his interpretation of the mundane working-class uniforms, the collection also featured an ensemble of slouchy layered garments adorned with colorful prints. Hand-drawn biomorphic camo blobs and skull motifs added an unexpected vibrancy to his typically sombrely-shaded palette.
This pair of cargo pants features an adjustable waist, hammer loops and sizable pockets as well as the aforementioned biomorphic camo blobs done by Yohji San himself.
