John Galliano continued to channel his eccentricity in Maison Margiela’s Autumn/Winter 2017 collection, where vibrant, deconstructed garments took over the runway.
There’s an allure to Galliano’s loud, disruptive approach when balanced with the enduring codes of Margiela. The nude-toned looks that opened the show paid homage to the color closely associated with the Maison.
The collection presented an impressive assemblage of materials and colors, featuring motifs like cutouts and cascading fabrics (motifs from his previous highly acclaimed couture show) trickling into this collection. Garments embraced a raw, arts-and-crafts aesthetic, unveiling a skeletal structure that transformed into fully realized pieces beneath the layered cutouts.
