AW07 Issey Miyake Pleated Cropped Jacket
AW07 Issey Miyake Pleated Cropped Jacket
The Autumn/Winter 2007 co-ed show was helmed by Dai Fujiwara, a significant member of the Miyake Design Studio and a longtime collaborator with Issey Miyake.
In 1997, Fujiwara and Miyake founded APOC (A Piece of Cloth), an apparel concept designed to highlight the two-dimensional quality of cloth and eliminate fashion wastage. APOC garments were produced in machine-made rolls of knit fabric pre-sewn or fused with finished patterns. This concept allowed consumers to manipulate and transform the garments, creating ready-made, customized clothing while retaining the tubular structure of each item. This approach empowered wearers to determine the end product, resulting in monochromatic clothing that left behind virtually no wasted material.
In AW07, a homage to APOC was reflected in three looks. Models were dressed in extremely elongated panels of tapestry with cuttable patterns printed on them. Marking Dai Fujiwara’s first Issey Miyake runway show. The collection revolved around the ethos of APOC and minimal waste. With garments constructed without unnecessary conjoining.
During his five-year tenure at Issey Miyake's mainline, we were continously served innovative garments that transcends ephemeral fashion trends.
This cropped jacket features the iconic accordion pleats and a masterfully manipulated collar.
