AW07 Dior Homme “Navigate” Waxed Denim
Hedi Slimane’s entry into the fashion world was nothing short of groundbreaking. Initially studying art history, Hedi began his career as a consultant for luxury brands under Jean-Jacques Picart before he was hired as a menswear designer by Pierre Berge for Yves Saint Laurent.
In 2000, Slimane became the creative director of Dior Homme, where he redefined menswear by introducing ultra-skinny silhouettes and sharp tailoring—a stark departure from the baggy, oversized styles that dominated at the time. His minimalist designs, combined with collaborations with musicians and a punk rock aesthetic, resonated deeply with younger audiences, cementing his influence in contemporary fashion.
Hedi’s final collection at Dior, Autumn/Winter 2007, is remembered as one of his most iconic. Titled Navigate after the song by the British band These New Puritans, the collection marked a departure from ahis signature indie-sleaze and ultra-skinny aesthetic. Instead, it embraced an avant-garde approach, showcasing long overcoats, sequined jackets, and militarized peacoats that exuded a futuristic and exploratory spirit which cemented his legacy in the fashion world.
Navigate is widely considered Hedi’s magnum opus, presenting a more mature and refined perspective. Many of the collection’s pieces, including the combat boots and patchwork denim, remain highly coveted by collectors today.
This pair of waxed denim draws inspiration from the AW03 Luster waxed denims, and is meticulously crafted from the finest Japanese denim.
