A reference to Takahiro Miyashita’s personal health condition and the 1988 Mudhoney track of the same name, Number (N)ine’s Autumn Winter 2003 collection “Touch Me I’m Sick” drew heavily from the underground Seattle grunge scene and one of his heroes — Kurt Cobain.
After taking time off from previous seasons due to illness, Miyashita returned with one of the most emotionally charged and sonically aligned collections in the label’s history. The result was a body of work that felt both deeply personal and culturally resonant.
The collection filtered Cobain’s charisma, authenticity, and anger through a Japanese lens, while drawing from the cold, damp backdrop of Seattle and the musicians’ working-class roots. Grunge was never born out of luxury or artifice, and Miyashita honored that spirit with a wardrobe that felt raw and unpolished.
Pieces were styled in tribute to how Cobain wore his clothes. Intentionally disheveled, and oversized.
This cropped leather jacket stands out as one of the collection’s more aggressive silhouettes and it features leather-braided buttons and a teardrop-patterned inner lining.
