The Comme Des Garcons Homme Plus Autumn Winter 2001 collection marked a continuation of Rei Kawakubo’s pursuit of maximalism and the deconstruction of traditional menswear codes. Replacing the label’s usual monochromes with kaleidoscopic visuals inspired by acid trips and optical illusions.
Styling leaned into hallucinogenic overload with models donning layered knits, loosely structured trousers, and towering top hats, each piece soaked in tie-dye, warped spirals, abstract motifs, and radiant color fades. Even accessories followed the theme, down to the shoes. Mimicking the hyper-saturation of 60s protest art and 70s pop fashion.
The collection remains one of the most impactful Homme Plus outings to date. It captured a moment where Kawakubo explored psychedelia not out of nostalgia, but as a response to a worldwide cultural shift entering the new millennium.
