90s Walter Van Beirendonck W< Aggresively Oversized Jeans
Part of the legendary Antwerp 6, Walter Van Beirendonck is known for his idiosyncratic, anti-fashion and riotous approach in fashion design. His garments challenged industry norms, paving the way for more artistic and unapologetic forms of self-expression. Known for infusing his collections with messages on social and political issues—such as environmentalism, consumerism, and LGBTQ+ rights—Walter continues to lead with authenticity, daring to provoke and inspire through his disruptive lens.
In 1993, Walter Van Beirendonck launched his sub-label W< (Wild & Lethal Trash). Proudly highlighting and celebrating the essence of 90s rave culture and youthful, street style with his outlandish and dizzying prints, neo sci-fi silhouettes, and subversive fetish references. The label shuttered in 1999 due to disagreements with his investors. Although it was relatively short-lived, its cult status endures, with its influence still visible in today’s fashion.
This pair of aggressively oversized jeans exemplifies W<’s ethos, featuring fluorescent orange accents and contrast stitching, and a larger-than-life silhouette that captures the rebellious spirit of youth from that era.
