2000s Issey Miyake Large Accordion Bag
The man behind this beautifully pleated accordion bag is non other than Naoki Takizawa. Beginning his career in Issey Miyake in 1980, Takizawa first dabbled in Issey Miyake's Plantation line, which offered genderless clothing suitable for people of all ages and sizes. The designs, made primarily from natural materials, were simple and loose, with an artisanal touch.
Takizawa has also designed garments for Empress Michiko, Wong Kar Wai, East Japan Railway, Uniqlo, and Helmut Lang.
In 1999, Takizawa was appointed creative director and head designer for Issey Miyake’s mainline. This bag, created during his tenure, has been produced in numerous iterations, with variations in color and material.
The sizable pleated wool bag features a strap that allows the wearer to cinch it into a bow shape or release it to expand the folds.
