Autumn/Winter 2017 marked Anthony Vaccarello’s second act at Saint Laurent, stepping into the shadows of SLP’s previous incumbent, Hedi Slimane. In true Anthony fashion, the co-ed show was a sexy, electrifying homage to the ’80s. Held at the brand’s under-construction headquarters in Paris, the setting accompanied Vaccarello’s raw yet refined vision perfectly.
The collection radiated attitude with leather taking center stage. From precisely cut leather dresses with dramatic ruffles, to tall, stacked shaft boots paired with sheer tulle tops, shearling jackets and razor-sharp skintight jeans. Taking a closer look at the menswear looks, we can find leather safari jackets, cropped bombers and exaggerated shoulders and an unexpected return of the classic Le Smoking jacket. Returned sharper than ever, its peak lapels and exaggerated shoulders.
The unapologetically glamorous styling wove a story of dark romance, where seduction met rock ‘n’ roll rebellion. Reinforcing the era’s bold aesthetic.
