AW16 Comme Des Garcons Ganryu Patchwork Shirt
Comme Des Garçons Ganryu was one of the most underrated diffusion lines from the diverse CDG universe, though it sadly shuttered quietly in 2017. Fumito Ganryu left the brand shortly after to pursue his own independent, eponymous label, which debuted at Pitti Uomo in 2018.
Helmed by Fumito Ganryu, a protégé and pattern-cutter under Rei Kawakubo, Ganryu’s designs share strong similarities with Junya Watanabe’s work, with both designers reimagining dull menswear silhouettes and giving them new meaning through Japanese deconstruction and utilitarian touches.
Autumn/Winter 2016 saw recurring motifs from Ganryu’s previous collections, with denim and patchwork dominating the runway. Short-hemmed blousons and compact fleece vests were paired with checked and patchwork shirts, injecting pops of color and contrast into the otherwise muted winter palette.
This classic white shirt features a reconstructed front panel, accented with blue patterned patchwork.
