Riccardo Tisci, who grew up Catholic in Southern Italy, brought a sublime, dark, gothic romanticism to the fashion world, drawing heavily on religious iconography throughout his tenure at Givenchy. His collections often referenced Catholic imagery such as Madonna prints and stained glass motifs.
After graduating from Central Saint Martins on a full scholarship, he worked at Puma and Ruffo Research before launching his eponymous label in 2004. A year later, Givenchy CEO Marco Gobbetti took a chance on the little-known designer and handed him the reins of one of LVMH’s crown jewels.
By 2011, Tisci was rumored to be the frontrunner for Dior’s creative director role following John Galliano’s departure. That speculation hung over his Fall 2011 menswear collection, which would go on to reshape the high fashion landscape.
With the prevailing rise of streetwear and street culture, Tisci made a decisive move. Rottweiler prints appeared on everything imaginable. Streetwear wasn’t just entering luxury fashion; it was being forced into it with intent, cloaked in dark, sensual gothicism. And the crowd loved it.
Tisci went on to define a new era at Givenchy, pioneering the luxury streetwear movement years before it became mainstream. Tisci walked so that Kim Jones could run.
This sweatshirt features his iconic Rottweiler motif over a tartan pattern, with side zippers that allow the silhouette to be adjusted as desired.
